Terms of Service
Effective date: October 1, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and eduScout LLC, an Arkansas company (“eduScout”, “we”, “us”). They cover using eduScout at eduscout.app. We have tried to write them the way we’d explain them to a friend. Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and what we do with it, and our Note rules explain what we will and won’t publish. Both are part of these terms.
If anything here is unclear, email hello@eduscout.app.
The short version
- Searching is free and needs no account.
- You need to be 18 or older to create an account.
- You own the notes you write. You give us permission to publish them, and that permission doesn’t end if you delete your account.
- No school can pay to change how it appears on eduScout.
- School information can be wrong or out of date. Check anything important with the school before you decide.
Using eduScout
Anyone can search schools on eduScout without an account. To save schools or write notes, you need an account, and to create one:
- You must be 18 or older.
- You must use an email address that is yours.
- An account is for one person.Don’t share it. If you sign in with an email and password, keep your password to yourself. If you sign in with Google, your Google account is the key to your eduScout account, so keep it secure too. You’re responsible for what happens on your account. If you think someone else has used it, email privacy@eduscout.app.
You can delete your account yourself at any time from your account page. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what deleting removes and what it doesn’t.
Notes you write
You own your note. When you submit one, you give eduScout LLC a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable licence to publish, display and keep it on eduScout, and to make the copies we need to do that, such as backups. We never claim to have written it, and we never edit your words.
That permission doesn’t end when your account does. If you delete your account, your notes stay up, with nothing linking them to you. If you want a note taken down, email privacy@eduscout.app before you delete your account and we’ll take it down. After your account is gone we can’t tell which notes were yours.
When you write a note:
- It must be about your own genuine experience with the school: as a family there, or from visiting, touring or talking with the school yourself.
- It must follow the Note rules: no profanity, hateful language, threats, harassment, private or identifying information, spam, or inappropriate content. Never include anything that could identify a child.
- Don’t write about a school you work for, own, or are paid by, or about a school that competes with one of those.
- You’re responsible for what you write. A note is its writer’s opinion, not eduScout’s.
Notes are moderated before they appear,as the Note rules describe. We may decline a note, or take down one already published, if it breaks these terms or the Note rules. If we do, you’ll see why on that school’s note page, and you can change it and send it again.
What you may not do
- Copy eduScout’s school listings or notes in bulk, or use bots, scrapers or other automated tools to collect them.
- Try to get into another person’s account, or into parts of eduScout you aren’t meant to reach.
- Interfere with how eduScout works, or try to overload it.
- Pretend to be someone else.
- Offer anything of value in exchange for a note, or ask someone to write a note in exchange for something.
- Use eduScout to harass, threaten or harm anyone.
If you break these terms, we may decline your notes, take them down, or suspend or close your account.
School information
The school information on eduScout comes from public sources, such as state school directories and schools’ own websites, and from parents. We work to keep it accurate, but it can be wrong or out of date. Tuition, grades, deadlines and availability change. Please confirm anything important with the school itself before you make a decision. If you spot something wrong, tell us at hello@eduscout.appand we’ll fix it.
No school or listed organisation can pay to change how it appears on eduScout — not its placement, not its listing, and not which notes are shown. That is a promise in our Trust Covenant, and these terms don’t change it.
eduScout links to other sites, such as schools’ websites and map directions. We don’t run those sites and aren’t responsible for them.
What belongs to us
eduScout’s name, logo, design and software belong to eduScout LLC. You’re welcome to share links to eduScout and to school pages. Notes belong to the parents who wrote them, as above.
Cost
eduScout is free to use today. We plan to add paid features— that is how eduScout will pay for itself — and we intend to keep a genuinely useful free version. Before you’re asked to pay for anything, we’ll tell you the price and the terms that go with it.
Our responsibility to you
We work hard to keep eduScout running and its information right, but we provide it “as is”. We can’t promise it will always be available, free of errors, or that any school information is complete or current.
To the extent the law allows, eduScout LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses from using eduScout, including a decision you made based on information on it, and our total liability to you for anything to do with eduScout is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $100, whichever is more.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the law that can’t be taken away by an agreement.
If eduScout ends
You can stop using eduScout at any time. If we ever shut eduScout down, we’ll give you notice first, as our Privacy Policy describes. The parts of these terms that by their nature should continue after your account or eduScout ends, including the note licence and Our responsibility to you, continue.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arkansas. Any dispute about them will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Arkansas, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it where you live.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change takes away a right you have or adds a new obligation, we’ll email account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect, so you can delete your account first if you’d rather. Using eduScout after a change takes effect means you accept it. We will never change these terms to take ownership of your notes.
Everything else
These terms, the Privacy Policy and the Note rules are the whole agreement between you and eduScout. If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a part of them straight away, we haven’t given it up.
